Even before Chicago was founded as a City, the West Side of Chicago was home to a thriving community of African Americans. Heading West retraces the history of African Americans on Chicago’s West Side. Through captivating archival footage and provocative interviews with historians and everyday residents, Heading West traces the Black West Side experience from the very beginning, through two major migrations of Blacks from the deep south, through the turbulent sixties, up to the promise of the new millennium.
